En mai 2025, la Biennale de la Photographie de Mulhouse accueille la photographe américaine Jenia Fridlyand pour une résidence d’exploration du bassin potassique et de ses habitant·es. Dans la perspective de l’édition 2026 du festival, intitulée Sédimentation(s), la photographe envisagera le territoire selon son histoire minière et les flux migratoires qu’elle a produits. Par son ancrage local historiquement lié à l'exploitation de la potasse, la diaspora polonaise constitue un des axes de recherche de cette résidence.
Née en 1975, Jenia Fridlyand est une photographe et enseignante basée à New York et dans la vallée de l’Hudson. Ses photographies et ses livres ont été exposés aux États-Unis et à l’étranger. Son livre d’artiste Entrance to Our Valley a été sélectionné pour le Paris Photo – Aperture First Photobook Award en 2017, et l'édition commerciale (TIS Books) en est à sa troisième impression. Son travail ultérieur a fait l'objet d'une exposition individuelle à la Fototeca de Cuba à La Havane en 2023. Elle est représentée par la Galerie Wouter van Leeuwen, Amsterdam. Jenia Fridlyand est la cofondatrice d'Image Threads, un collectif éducatif à but non lucratif, et préside le Long Term Photobook Program de la Fondation Penumbra à New York. Elle a étudié la photographie au Centre Iris et à l'Université Paris VIII, et est titulaire d'une maîtrise en beaux-arts du programme international de résidence limitée de l'Université de Hartford.

In May 2025, the Mulhouse Photography Biennial welcomes American photographer Jenia Fridlyand for a residency exploring the potash mining region and its inhabitants. In preparation for the 2026 edition of the festival, entitled Sedimentation(s), the photographer will consider the area in terms of its mining history and the migratory flows it has produced. With its local roots historically linked to potash mining, the Polish diaspora is one of the research focuses of this residency.
Jenia Fridlyand (Moscow, 1975) is a photographer and educator based in New York City and the Hudson Valley. Her photographs and books have been exhibited in the United States and abroad. Fridlyand’s artist’s book Entrance to Our Valley was shortlisted for the Paris Photo - Aperture First Photobook Award 2017, and the trade edition (TIS Books) is now in its 3rd printing. Her subsequent body of work was the subject of a solo exhibition at Fototeca de Cuba in Havana in 2023. She is represented by Galerie Wouter van Leeuwen, Amsterdam. Fridlyand is a co-founder of Image Threads, a non-profit educational collective, and is the chair of the Long Term Photobook Program at Penumbra Foundation in New York. She studied photography at Centre Iris and Université Paris VIII, and holds an MFA from the University of Hartford’s International Limited-Residency program.
