Thomas Hauser se mesure à l’échelle d’un bâtiment industriel du XIXe siècle (Motoco sur le site de l’usine DMC), pour une installation in situ inédite, créée en écho avec le passé du lieu. Il déconstruit la notion d’archive, soumettant les images à un processus de dégradation et d’abstraction qui les éloignent de toute forme de narration identifiable. Si son travail se rattache plastiquement à la photographie, il s’étend également conceptuellement vers la sculpture et le cinéma, dont il adapte la technique de montage et de fragmentation temporelle. Jonchant le sol, sur des blocs de pierre, de béton ou des miroirs, ses images prennent la forme d’une géologie du souvenir.
Né en 1984, Thomas Hauser vit et travaille à Paris. Diplômé de l’Ecole Supérieure d’Art et de Design Marseille-Méditerranée, Thomas Hauser a réalisé un post-diplôme au California College of Arts à San Francisco. Il a récemment exposé à La Frontiera (Paris), au Centre d'art Image/Imatge (Orthez), à Aperture Gallery (New York) et au Foam (Amsterdam). Il a été sélectionné pour le Nouveau Prix Découverte aux Rencontres de la Photographie d’Arles 2018.
Thomas Hauser will tackle a 19th century industrial building (Motoco - DMC factory), with a novel installation in situ created in keeping with the industrial past of the DMC factory. Thomas Hauser deconstructs the notion of archive, subjecting images to a process of degradation and abstraction that distances them from any form of identifiable narration. If aesthetically his work is linked to photography, conceptually it also extends to sculpture and film, from which he adapts the editing and temporal fragmentation technique. His images are strewn over the ground, on slabs of stone, concrete or mirrors in the form of a geology of the memory.
Born in 1984. Lives and works in Montreuil, France. He exhibited at the Aperture Gallery, New York invated by Sylvain Couzinet-Jacques (2016), at Centre d’art image/imatge, Orthez / exhibition Face à l’Aura curated by Léa Bismuth, at FOAM, Amsterdam / exhibition Back to the future curator Kim Knoppers. He will expose at the Nouveau Prix Découverte, during The Rencontres de la Photographie d’Arles 2018.
