Partant sur les traces d'Hercule Florence, Livia Melzi a traversé trois états brésiliens pendant le mois de janvier 2015 : São Paulo, Minas Gerais et Rio de Janeiro, reprenant le parcours de l'expédition du naturaliste allemand Langsdorff, expédition à laquelle a participé le français Hercule Florence en 1824. Les photographies distinguent deux pans de cette recherche : d'un coté l'enquête/exploration et de l'autre, le rassemblement/reconstruction du travail et de la vie de ce personnage. En effet, c'est tantôt le matériau réel, tantôt la partie fictionnelle qui attire la jeune artiste.

Livia Melzi est une photographe brésilienne, née en 1985. Elle vit et travaille à Paris. Après des études en Océanographie, Livia Melzi a passé une année à l'Ecole de la Photographie d'Arles en tant qu'artiste en résidence. Elle mène actuellement un double master à l'Université Paris 8 et au Musée d'histoire naturelle de Paris. Son travail photographique est fortement influencé par la muséographie et les sciences naturelles.


Sur le traces d' Hercule Florence is a research project started during an artist residency at l'ENSP Arles. The project questions the boundary between archive and fiction.  Based on the historical documents of the French-Brazilian inventor, the installation is a symbiosis between museology, botanic, cartography, photography and memory. It is a interpretation of the iconic figure's unfinished message that follows the path of his spirit and imagination.

Livia Melzi is a Brazilian photographer, born in 1985. She lives and works in Paris. After completing a degree in Oceanography, Melzi was an artist in residence at l'École Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie, in Arles, France. Currently developing one master in Paris 8 and another at the Natural History Museum of Paris.  This double training is reflected in her work, which is strongly influenced by elements of natural science, collection and the limits between museology and the arts.
