\n<\/span>talk and<\/span> conferences<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n

\u00ab\u00a0How is the idea of a photography book born? Does it exist prior to the images? Does it arise while the images are being made, or does it take hold long afterwards? And to what extent do elements such as chance or encounters influence this process? A hybrid, open-ended object, halfway between the novel and the cinema, the photography book has enabled many photographers to find a new creative space, away from the magazine, the gallery or the showroom. A place freed from the simple function of archiving, in which the photographer can control all the parameters (printing, layout, rhythm and format of the images, choice of paper, typography, etc.) – allowing him or her to claim more than ever an authorial approach.<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb

On the occasion of his exhibition at the Saint-Jean Chapel<\/a>, Tiago Casanova explores the parallels that may exist between presenting photographs in a physical space and in a book. Drawing on his dual experience as an artist and a publisher, he discusses the role of the photo book in his work.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

15h<\/strong>, EN\/FR<\/span> : \u00a0About Bernard Guillot<\/em><\/span>, talk bewteen Ilias Georgiadis (editor, Origini Edizioni), Patrick Le Bescont (editor Filigranes) and Fabien Ribery (art critic)<\/p>\n

A discreet figure in French photography who passed away in 2021, Bernard Guillot created a body of work that straddled the real and the spiritual. In 2003, \u00c9ditions Filigranes published his book <\/span><\/em>Le Pavillon Blanc<\/span>, which received the Nadar Prize. His work on the Jewish Cemetery in Cairo was published in 2024 by Origini Edizioni under the title<\/span><\/em> La Cit\u00e9 des Morts<\/span>. His publishers, Patrick Le Bescont and Ilias Georgiadis, reflect on the photographer\u2019s work.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

16h30<\/strong>, FR<\/span> : Family Albums, a Different Approach<\/em><\/span> : talk between Pauline Hisbacq (photographer, editor of September books), Fran\u00e7ois Jonquet (photographer) and Fabien Ribery (art critic)<\/p>\n

In his first book, <\/span><\/em>Forage<\/span>, published by Void in 2023, Fran\u00e7ois Jonquet reassembles two decades of images from his family\u2019s daily life. In <\/span><\/em>Collages pour Nina<\/span> (2025, September Books), Pauline Hisbacq juxtaposes snapshots from her daughter\u2019s childhood with archival images of Pompeii. Two photographers\u2019 perspectives on their own private spheres.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

16h30<\/strong>, FR<\/span> : Watching and showing violence<\/em><\/span> : talk between Natalie Malisse, Eleonora Calvelli (photographers) and Nicolas B\u00e9zard (journalist)<\/p>\n

In <\/span><\/em>La grande maison <\/span>(\u00c9ditions du Ca\u00efd, 2024), Natalie Malisse takes a retrospective look at domestic violence. <\/span><\/em>With Making Love to G. is gonna be like the first time I tried a cheeseburger<\/span><\/span> (2023), Eleonora Calvelli highlights the voyeurism of violence perpetuated by reality TV. The domestic space\u2014whether lived in or artificially recreated\u2014serves as the backdrop for these two approaches<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Datz Press (Seoul) is an art book press that works with photographers, designers, and bookmakers. They create, publish, and exhibit books centered on photography. Its founder, Sangyon Joo, is also an artist and the director of the Datz Museum. She shares her experience.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

15h<\/strong>, EN<\/span> : I Make Books, Therefore I Am<\/em><\/span>, Jenia Fridlyand about <\/em>The Agency<\/em> <\/span>: a talk between the photographer and Giulia Zorzi, bookseller (Micamera)<\/p>\n

Initiated by Jenia Fridlyand and John Gossage, <\/span><\/em>The Agency<\/span> is a new imprint conceived as a finite series of fifteen books. Curated, designed, and produced by a circle of photography devotees – fanatics, mavericks, and eccentrics – the project is envisioned as a kind of concept album. For both the founders and the artists they invite, the photobook is the primary form their work takes.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Recently published by Micamera, <\/span><\/em>TIP – The Italian Photobook <\/span>is a magazine with a list of 71 books by Italian photographers that should not be missing from the shelves of every photobook lover. Giulia Zorzi introduces a few titles from this selection, and share some of the reasons behind these choices.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

16h30<\/strong>, EN\/FR<\/span> : Photographing, Writing, Theorising, <\/em><\/span>a talk between Eric Gyamfi, photographer, Partricia Haynes, art historian and Ange-Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Koffi, curator\u00a0<\/p>\n

Drawing on the catalogue of <\/em>Settled<\/span><\/a>, this conversation brings together Ghanaian photographer Eric Gyamfi and art historian Patricia Hayes around a central question: what can critical writing on the image say that the image alone cannot \u2014 and vice versa.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
