“The MPB aims to show contemporary photographic practice in a state of perpetual movement and questioning. The way that photography navigates the contemporary realm is one of the main axioms of the program: its relationship to the evolution of the medium, but also to the ecological, social and economic context.”
Anne Immelé, artistic director
The MPB is a festival that gives a place to photographers' singular visions of our world and, in this sense, supports contemporary creation. In addition to promoting cross-border exchanges and greater respect for our environment, the festival regularly welcomes artists in residence, enabling them to pursue their research or produce new works. The MPB has a dual vocation: to open up the photographic spectrum to the international arena, while detecting and promoting emerging photography.
Six editions of the festival have already taken place, each featuring a dozen exhibitions in and around Mulhouse. The festival has been deployed in numerous cultural and patrimonial venues ( Fine Arts Museum, Printing on Clothes Museum, Grand'Rue Library, Filature Gallery, Saint-Jean Chapel, Europe Tower, etc.) as well as in public spaces (along the banks of the Ill river and the Marne-Rhine canal, on the forecourt of Mulhouse railway station).
Mulhouse, a land of migration with a strategic position on the Upper Rhine, a young and cosmopolitan city, offers a unique setting for this event, which is now firmly rooted in its territory and supported by the City of Mulhouse, the DRAC Grand Est, the Région Grand Est, the Collectivité Européenne d'Alsace, and the German city of Freiburg im Breisgau.
