Les oc\u00e9ans, les rivi\u00e8res et les lacs forment un r\u00e9seau complexe qui recouvre la surface de la Terre et donne vie aux r\u00e9gions les plus diverses.\u00a0 L\u2018exposition <span class=\"theme_color\"><em>Troubled Surface \/ Surface troubl\u00e9e<\/em><\/span> met en dialogue deux positions photographiques qui abordent de mani\u00e8re diff\u00e9rente le motif de l\u2018eau et sa dimension po\u00e9tique et politique. Alors que Gabriel Goller, dans sa s\u00e9rie <em><span class=\"theme_color\">Everywhere is a better place<\/span><\/em>, fait le portrait de la m\u00e9tropole nig\u00e9riane de Lagos, situ\u00e9e au bord de l\u2018oc\u00e9an Atlantique sud, sur fond de pollution et de p\u00e9nurie d\u2018eau, Karin Jobst, dans sa s\u00e9rie d\u2018\u0153uvres <span class=\"theme_color\"><em>OCEAN. Transatlantic seaway<\/em><\/span> constate les mouvements fugaces et les reflets du ciel \u00e0 la surface de l\u2018une des principales voies navigables de l\u2018Occident, l\u2018axe Rotterdam-New York. Dans les travaux pr\u00e9sent\u00e9s, ce n\u2018est pas seulement l\u2018interd\u00e9pendance des relations commerciales et des conditions de vie mondialis\u00e9es qui transpara\u00eet. Les prises de vue nous am\u00e8nent \u00e9galement \u00e0 nous demander comment le naturel et le produit de l\u2018humain s\u2018entrem\u00ealent et si ces interd\u00e9pendances apparaissent au grand jour ou restent invisibles.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"theme_color\"><em>Water, above all, surrounds the planet in a fragile envelope. Oceans, rivers and lakes form a complex network that covers the Earth&rsquo;s surface and gives life to the most diverse regions. <\/em><\/span><span class=\"theme_color\"><em>The exhibition <\/em>Troubled Surface \/ Surface troubl\u00e9e<em> brings together two photographic positions that take different approaches to the theme of water and its poetic and political dimensions. While Gabriel Goller&rsquo;s series <\/em>Everywhere is a better place<em> portrays the Nigerian metropolis of Lagos, located on the shores of the South Atlantic Ocean, in a context of pollution and water scarcity, Karin Jobst&rsquo;s series <\/em>OCEAN. Transatlantic seaway<em>, Karin Jobst observes the fleeting movements and reflections of the sky on the surface of one of the West&rsquo;s main waterways, the Rotterdam-New York axis. In the works presented, it&rsquo;s not just the interdependence of trade relations and globalized living conditions that shines through. The images also raise the question of how the natural and the human intertwine, and whether these interdependencies come to light or remain invisible.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Gabriel Goller<\/h2>\n<p>\u201coooh yes ! Premium Water\u201d est l\u2018inscription sur les water bags, des sachets en plastique de la taille d\u2018une main contenant de l\u2018eau douce, qui sont vendus \u00e0 tous les coins de rue \u00e0 Lagos, la capitale du Nigeria, avant d\u2018\u00eatre jet\u00e9s. Contrairement aux bouteilles en plastique un peu plus lourdes, ils sont dispers\u00e9s par le vent dans tous les coins de la ville \u00e0 cause de leur l\u00e9g\u00e8ret\u00e9, le mat\u00e9riau fabriqu\u00e9 artificiellement se fondant dans l\u2018environnement construit et naturel. C\u2018est ainsi que nous rencontrons les water bags dans une grande partie des clich\u00e9s de Gabriel Goller, que ce soit dans la photographie d\u2018un lit de rivi\u00e8re bord\u00e9 de d\u00e9chets, entre les \u00e9tals d\u2018un march\u00e9 au sol ou dans les mains d\u2018un chauffeur de camion qui boit. La s\u00e9rie, qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9e sur une p\u00e9riode d\u2018un an, est consacr\u00e9e \u00e0 Lagos en tant que lieu d\u2018une activit\u00e9 tr\u00e9pidante et d\u2018une grande diversit\u00e9 culturelle. Au milieu du chaos urbain, Goller recherche des moments de calme et de tranquillit\u00e9 et capture son environnement de mani\u00e8re \u00e0 r\u00e9duire au minimum la distance entre le photographe et le sujet photographi\u00e9. Les prises de vue riches en couleurs et en d\u00e9tails permettent au public de s\u2018immerger dans la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 de la vie de la plus grande m\u00e9tropole d\u2018Afrique. Dans un environnement marqu\u00e9 par la duret\u00e9 et le d\u00e9sordre, de petits moments de beaut\u00e9 et d\u2018espoir apparaissent, que Goller oppose parfois \u00e0 des sc\u00e8nes plus tristes.<\/p>\n<p>Gabriel Goller, (*1992 \u00e0 Fribourg, DE) vit et travaille \u00e0 Fribourg, DE et Lagos, NG. De 2014 \u00e0 2018, il a \u00e9tudi\u00e9 \u00e0 la Haute \u00e9cole d\u2018art, de design et de musique populaire (hkdm, Fribourg) avec la professeure Karin Jobst. Pendant ses \u00e9tudes, il a effectu\u00e9 des semestres au Nigeria et aux \u00c9tats-Unis. En 2018, Goller a fait partie de l\u2018exposition de groupe <span class=\"theme_color\"><em>Stretched Terrains<\/em><\/span> \u00e0 la Biennale Dak\u2018Art de Dakar. Depuis 2022, il vit et travaille \u00e0 Lagos, o\u00f9 il participe \u00e0 des projets d\u2018\u00e9changes culturels.Son travail se caract\u00e9rise par l\u2018exploration et la fusion exp\u00e9rimentales des limites de diff\u00e9rents m\u00e9dias comme la sculpture, la peinture et la photographie, en les faisant dialoguer entre eux pour cr\u00e9er de nouvelles formes d\u2018expression. Une grande partie de ce travail est un regard critique sur les agglom\u00e9rations des r\u00e9gions m\u00e9tropolitaines europ\u00e9ennes et africaines. Il aborde le r\u00f4le de la consommation dans la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 et l\u2018identit\u00e9 de l\u2018individu dans l\u2018espace urbain.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"theme_color\"><em>\u00ab\u00a0oooh yes! Premium Water\u00a0\u00bb is the inscription on the water bags, hand-sized plastic pouches containing fresh water, which are sold on every street corner in Lagos, Nigeria&rsquo;s capital, before being thrown away. Unlike the slightly heavier plastic bottles, they are scattered by the wind in every corner of the city because of their lightness, the artificially manufactured material blending into the built and natural environment. This is how we come across water bags in a large proportion of Gabriel Goller&rsquo;s shots, whether in a photograph of a riverbed lined with garbage, between the stalls of a ground-level market or in the hands of a truck driver drinking. The series, which was produced over a period of one year, focuses on Lagos as a place of hectic activity and cultural diversity. Amidst the urban chaos, Goller seeks out moments of calm and tranquillity, capturing his surroundings in such a way as to minimize the distance between photographer and photographed subject. The shots, rich in color and detail, allow the public to immerse themselves in the reality of life in Africa&rsquo;s largest metropolis. In an environment marked by harshness and disorder, small moments of beauty and hope appear, which Goller sometimes contrasts with sadder scenes.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"theme_color\"><em>Gabriel Goller, (*1992 in Freiburg, DE) lives and works in Freiburg, DE and Lagos, NG. From 2014 to 2018, he studied at the University of Art, Design and Folk Music (hkdm, Freiburg) with Professor Karin Jobst. During his studies, he spent semesters in Nigeria and the USA. In 2018, Goller was part of the group exhibition <\/em>Stretched Terrains <em>at the Dak&rsquo;Art Biennale in Dakar. Since 2022, he has lived and worked in Lagos, where he participates in cultural exchange projects.His work is characterized by the experimental exploration and fusion of the boundaries of different media such as sculpture, painting and photography, bringing them into dialogue with each other to create new forms of expression. Much of this work is a critical look at the agglomerations of European and African metropolitan regions. Les photographies ont \u00e9t\u00e9 prises en 2012 lors d\u2018un voyage de douze jours \u00e0 bord d\u2018un porte-conteneurs, lors de la travers\u00e9e de Hambourg \u00e0 New York via Rotterdam. Toutes les heures, Jobst saisissait avec son appareil photo une partie de la surface de l\u2018eau depuis le bateau en mouvement. Chaque extrait porte sa propre coloration, bas\u00e9e sur les reflets du ciel en constante \u00e9volution et sur les mouvements de l\u2018eau provoqu\u00e9s par le navire. La voie maritime transatlantique reliant l\u2018Europe \u00e0 New York est l\u2018une des routes commerciales les plus fr\u00e9quent\u00e9es au monde. Au c\u0153ur de l\u2018\u0153uvre se trouve toutefois un moment immersif dans l\u2018exp\u00e9rience r\u00e9elle, une immersion dans la contemplation de l\u2018eau qui passe, qui se transforme en un moment immersif dans l\u2018espace d\u2018exposition, une immersion dans des mondes de couleurs sur le mur. Pour ce faire, des prises de vue analogiques moyen format num\u00e9ris\u00e9es ont \u00e9t\u00e9 traduites en photographies bas\u00e9es sur le temps et saisies dans une transition cin\u00e9matographique. Elle est \u00e9galement experte de confiance de la Fondation d\u2018\u00e9tudes Heinrich B\u00f6ll, Berlin.<\/p>\n<p><em><span class=\"theme_color\">In her work OCEAN &#8211; transatlantic seaway, Karin Jobst fuses almost 300 analog shots into a chromatic experience that occupies the whole space, in the form of a photographic film lasting several hours. The photographs were taken in 2012 during a twelve-day voyage aboard a container ship from Hamburg to New York via Rotterdam. Every hour, Jobst would capture a section of the water&rsquo;s surface with her camera from the moving ship. Each extract bears its own coloring, based on the reflections of the ever-changing sky and the movements of the water caused by the ship. The transatlantic seaway linking Europe to New York is one of the world&rsquo;s busiest trade routes. At the heart of the work, however, is an immersive moment in the real experience, an immersion in the contemplation of passing water, which is transformed into an immersive moment in the exhibition space, an immersion in worlds of color on the wall. To achieve this, digitized medium-format analog shots were translated into time-based photographs and captured in a cinematic transition. How is space transmitted in photography and film, and what boundaries dissolve?<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span class=\"theme_color\">Karin Jobst (*1973, Landshut, DE) obtained her Master of Fine Arts (MfA) at the Hochschule f\u00fcr bildende K\u00fcnste, Hamburg HFBK with Professors Silke Grossmann and Wim Wenders, and her Diploma in Photography at the FH Bielefeld with Professor Katharina Bosse, thanks to a scholarship from the Heinrich B\u00f6ll Foundation, Berlin. She has photographed a German nuclear power plant, traveled by container ship from Hamburg to New York City, USA, and photographed under Niagara Falls in one of North America&rsquo;s largest tunnels.
